Wow, what an incredible day of hockey for finals day at the Wellington round of the All Female League.
Junior Women grade had a mixer day today, playing great games and making new friends across the teams. Well done to everyone!
Intermediate Women grade was a big step up in intensity, and these young women played incredibly hard in the 2 semis. When the dust settled, after 2 tight games Penguins and Vipers had booked a place in the grand final.
After a full, long and intense final played under stop clock rules, the teams were drawn. It seemed right given there was only a whisker between them.
It took 6 minutes of extra time before Vipers managed to get one through - taking the gold.
There was huge mutual respect for the effort each had put in, signified by a big shared huddle and call at the end.
The 3rd/4th playoff was also intense, with Renegades taking the bronze after a narrow win over the Ravens.
Final result for IW:
- 1st - Vipers
- 2nd - Penguins
- 3rd - Renegades
- 4th - Ravens
Thanks to Paul Matthews for the final summary of the weekend.
