COVID-19 Update - 20 March 2020

IHNZ News
Update from IHNZ:
Hi all,
We, like so many schools, clubs, workplaces etc across New Zealand are closely monitoring the Coronavirus situation and its impact on our members and their families.
The spread of the virus and its effect is constantly evolving. We hope that Government actions over the last 24 hours will help to contain further outbreaks.
Many players and clubs are asking us about the impact of Covid -19 on club trainings, league games and tournaments.
We are aware several national sporting bodies have cancelled their trainings, games and shut venues throughout New Zealand. To date, this is not a decision we have come to but are closely monitoring all Sport NZ, Government sites etc so we can pass on sound advice to each club and region.
Our leagues are scheduled to start after the April school holidays so between now and then we will remain in close communication with our regional bodies regarding the way forward.
Here’s what we know so far:
Are club trainings still running?
Yes - to date all clubs are still running their training sessions with reminders to all to be extra vigilant by putting up notices at their rink, emailing out information and placing in clear view to all what good hygiene protocols are.
Some clubs have advised us that school leagues will not be running for the remainder of this term and will be re assessed at the beginning of next term.
A number of rinks have also advised that public sessions have also been stopped for the foreseeable future.
We have received great feedback from clubs that have initiated a log book in which all participants to trainings have signed in (including spectators and siblings) so in the case of a transmission anyone present can be easily
contacted. We strongly encourage those who haven’t yet implemented this to do so.
The government website released on 18 March also contains up to date information www.covid19.govt.nz
We are following all Government and Ministry of Health guidelines around current best practice.
Should my child attend their training?
If they are well, yes, they can attend trainings.
If they are feeling unwell, or showing potential symptoms of Coronavirus such as coughing, having a temperature and shortness of breath, they need to remain at home and not attend training.
If any family member has been in contact with a suspected Coronavirus case they need to remain away from the rink and any public place.
We will keep you updated:
Please be assured that we will keep you constantly updated.
Again, this is an evolving situation and it is important to us that you know what is happening and are immediately contacted with any changes that may affect you.
We encourage you to raise any concerns you have via your club who will forward onto the Board.
Alternatively, you can email any query to gm@inlinehockey.org.nz
