Kia ora Hockey Whānau,

To my mind, Matariki is a “Kiwi as” celebration. It is a wonderful time to acknowledge our nation’s rich heritage and culture. To mark this, the 2024 Inline Hockey Matariki Series will be held in New Plymouth this weekend. Te Puni Kōkiri, Ministry of Māori Development have generously provided support through their Te Pū Harakeke Fund to help make the Matariki Series happen.

It is also fitting to pay special mention to Willy Harvey IHNZ Kaumatua, and his Matariki Committee for putting on this amazing event. Ngā mihi nui!

Matariki is also a time for reflection, remembrance, and planning for the future. Against that backdrop, the new Board has begun its mahi.

We will soon hold a Special General Meeting (SGM) to introduce the new Board to everyone. The Board Appointment Panel will also attend to explain their processes and provide insights on the guidance they have offered. However, in the meantime, there is a sense of urgency for the new Board to make a few decisions. That urgency has had to take precedence. It’s a highly unusual situation, so some practicality is important.

The Board is also preparing a survey that will be sent to club presidents. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us understand what’s working well and where we can improve. The survey will primarily focus on areas such as strategic planning, financial management, membership trends, and future development. We want to ensure that the voice of each club is heard.

In the spirit of Matariki, I encourage us all to take this time to reach out to one another, supporting and uplifting our players, coaches, volunteers, and families. It takes the collective efforts of our entire Hockey Whānau to make hockey happen. In that spirit, I look forward to hearing from all clubs on how we can best support you to make even more hockey happen.

Ngā manaakitanga,

Asbjorn
