Statement from IHNZ Regarding the Proposed 2025 Oceania Event
At Inline Hockey New Zealand (IHNZ), we prioritise player safety and uphold the highest standards through our officially sanctioned events. Recently, there has been considerable discussion regarding a proposed 2025 Oceania event, and we wish to clarify our position.
The proposed event may remind people of the historical Oceania event, a collaborative, sanctioned competition between New Zealand and Australia, coordinated through SkateNZ and Skate Australia under the auspices of World Skate. However, the proposed event is not sanctioned by IHNZ, SkateNZ, Skate Australia or World Skate. It is also not affiliated with any of these organisations.
As a result, IHNZ will not be providing New Zealand teams, coaching staff, or team selection staff for the proposed event, and IHNZ’s child safeguarding and player safety policies will not apply. However, we are pleased to share that IHNZ has several exciting events planned for 2025, featuring competitions and initiatives that will bring our community together and highlight the best of our sport. We look forward to announcing more details soon and to the continued participation and support of our members.
Thank you for your commitment to Inline Hockey New Zealand and for supporting our mission to grow and develop our sport safely and inclusively.
