Matariki Weekend - New Plymouth
Friday 24 - Sunday 26 June 2022

It is with great pleasure that IHNZ announce a new tournament to the annual inline hockey calendar as part of the Matariki Weekend celebrations.

Matariki is known as the Maori new year, it is a time for remembering those who have passed, celebrating our communities and who we are, growth and renewal.

IHNZ’s Matariki hockey festival is about acknowledging and celebrating Te Ao Maori within our sport and reflecting on all that we as individuals and as a collective have achieved, and what we hope to achieve as we move forward.

The tournament is based around the 9 stars within the Matariki star cluster with the main star (Matariki) representing our exhibition game between the NZ Maori and NZ All Stars teams to be played on Saturday, 25 June at 7:00 p.m.

The other 8 stars (Waitī, Waitā, Waipuna-ā-rangi, Tupuānuku, Tupuārangi, Ururangi, Pōhutukawa and Hiwa-i-te-rangi) will be represented by 8 teams that players from our Maori and All Star teams will form.

Leadership groups within the Maori and All Star teams, will invite our rangatahi from around NZ to complete these teams and participate in a series of inline hockey games over the weekend. This creates a fantastic opportunity for our up and coming players to play with and be mentored by senior players of our game!
